No School This Friday, April 27th

In alignment with the DPS decision to cancel school this Friday,  McAuliffe International students will not have school this Friday, April 27th.

In order to recover the lost instructional time from Friday, we will not have a late start on Thursday, May 3rd. Instead, Thursday, May 3rd will be a regular school day with an 8:00am start time. The Red-White calendar has been adjusted and is posted on our website. Monday, April 30th is a Red Day.

2018 McAuliffe Enrollment Information

Dear Greater Park Hill / Stapleton Community,

First of all, thank you to all families who chose McAuliffe International Middle School as a preference on your 2018-19 SchoolChoice Round 1 application. The recent release of results shows that for the first time in several years, we have a waitlist of nearby families wanting to attend our school. We believe it’s a testament to the hard work we’ve put in to make McAuliffe International the kind of school our great community deserves.

We wish we could accept all the families who want to attend our school. However, to best serve our students and families – and as is the case at schools all over DPS – we must cap our enrollment at an appropriate number that fits our available space and resources.

Along those lines, I’d like to further explain the factors that McAuliffe International uses to prioritize applications during SchoolChoice.

All DPS schools have specific admission priorities. Our school is part of the Greater Park Hill Stapleton Middle School Enrollment Zone, which means students residing within this zone have an admission priority over all students residing outside the zone (except for students of school staff or siblings of current students).

This year, McAuliffe International chose to participate in a new enrollment pilot program that takes a student’s free and reduced lunch status into account as an admission priority. We feel very strongly – and research shows – that students of all income levels and races benefit from diversity in their school. We believe these schools offer the best education for our kids by breaking down stereotypes, building bridges and promoting vibrant neighborhoods throughout Denver.

McAuliffe International offered 510 seats to students residing within our enrollment zone for the 2018-19 school year. Any seats that went to students eligible for free and reduced lunch from outside our enrollment zone were added on top of that 510-seat amount.

Below is the ranked order of admission priorities used to determine enrollment at McAuliffe International:

  1. Children of staff
  2. Siblings of current students
  3.  Students who live in the Greater Park Hill Stapleton Middle School Enrollment Zone
  4. Students eligible for free and reduced lunch who live outside the enrollment zone and are Denver residents
  5. Students who live outside the enrollment zone and are Denver residents
  6.  Students eligible for free and reduced lunch who live outside Denver
  7. Students who live outside Denver

We are proud of the good things going on at McAuliffe International, and with this success comes more demand for available seats. DPS’ system of fair and transparent enrollment is meant to give all families equal access to these seats, while taking into account priorities that we hope benefit our school and create a richer and more vibrant community as a whole.

I hope this letter helps answer how McAuliffe International builds its student roster. If you have further questions or need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

There are also larger lessons about self-identity, labels, expectations, and forgiveness.

The performance starts at 6:30pm each night. Doors open at 6:00pm. Tickets are available for purchase here or at the door each night.

Period 1 – May 7th
Period 2 – May 8th

To participate, please complete the survey using the student number (aka lunch number) for your eldest child at this school. Please complete the survey by Friday, May 11th.
