I grew up on the East Coast and completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Virginia, but Colorado has been my home since 1992. I moved here to attend graduate school at the University of Colorado at Boulder and never left. Since graduating with my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, I have taught sixth through eleventh grade in a wide variety of settings, with most of my experience in middle school language arts. In addition, I worked at McREL (Mid-Continent Research for Education and Learning), an educational research organization, where I developed curriculum for clients such as NASA and McDonalds. Teaching gives me the kind of mental challenges I love: determining powerful content, finding effective instructional techniques, and adjusting the delivery of curriculum to meet the needs of my students. When these factors fall into place, all students learn and grow, and nothing is more fulfilling than witnessing that. In our free time, my husband Tom and I spend as much time as possible enjoying the beautiful Colorado outdoors with our children.
